Just drive occasionally - it's nice.

These pictures were taken earlier this year. I was going through my pictures and realized it's been too long since I've gone on a nice, long ride. The first three of these pictures are about 30 minutes from Provo. They are up on the Alpine Scenic Hwy also called the Alpine Loop or Hwy 92. I am on the right on all of these pictures.

There's something really nice about going for a drive that is relaxing - even if you're not on a motorcycle. The picture below is a photo at the bottom of the mountain at Sundance Resort. If you enlarge the photo or take a close look you can see the lift at the top center of the picture. This is probably less than a 20 minute drive from Provo.
In honor of the snow yesterday and today I had to add a snowboarding picture. It only snowed a little and didn't stick. In fact, I didn't even see any of it; I was too caught up studying or it didn't snow right where I was. But either way, the snow is coming! This picture was taken the last day of the season earlier this year on Powder Mountain.
I received permission from those in these pictures to post them on this site. Please do not copy these pictures.

Off the Beaten Path

It's crazy to me how awesome BYU is. Actually, it's really crazy what a good lookin' place the whole world is around us. Sometimes we just need to slow down and enjoy what's around. Back home in California there were parks that I'd drive by on a regular basis that I never actually stopped to enjoy. Well, here's a spot right off the beaten path for BYU students. And it's not far from the road so it's accessible to anyone. Sometimes when you just take one short step from your everyday route it can really broaden your perspective.
This location is location is just behind the MOA (museum of art) from University Dr. It is North of the HFAC right between the HFAC and the MOA.
Behind the trees in the picture above is a view of Harold B. Lee Library, the Joseph F. Smith Building, and the Jesse Knight Building (not shown - you would see them if the trees weren't there).
Below is the south side of the BYU administration building.
For the next few days try looking for places off the beaten path. You might be surprised what you will find...

Sweet BYU!

For the next couple weeks I am going to be exploring some places on Brigham Young University's campus. BYU has a ton of really awesome places to go for a picnic, walk, or date that are right in front of our eyes. Most of them we don't ever notice. This is one of those places. This location is on North University Dr. (the same as Bulldog Blvd. before you enter BYU campus), just before it turns right (south). You'll know what I mean if you go there. Its right across the street from the Museum of Art.
The pictures below were taken by me. The first picture is the best view you would be able to see from the road.
Most BYU students are familiar with the "duck pond" which is a different pond that is south of campus. I think the reason it is so well known and this pond isn't is because the duck pond is more visible from the road. The duck pond is also a little closer to more housing. But this pond is much prettier and has a waterfall - which I think makes it much cooler. Also, there are sometimes ducks here as well. I don't remember what weekend it was but earlier this year, on a three-day-weekend, I wanted to feed ducks with my girlfriend and all the ducks at the 'duck pond' were already full of bread! I had never seen ducks that were less enthused to see bread in my life.
This area also has plenty of grass around it as well as a path surrounding the pond. Last week when I took these pictures there was a father with his few children having a good time exploring, running around the pond and waterfall.
The picture above was taken from the top of the waterfall.

This path is really pretty and if you like this, you'll really love one of the locations that I will post soon. BYU Grounds has been working on a project that is much similar to this one since early this year and is actually not quite all the way done yet. But I'll be taking pictures of it this week. There will be a creek that is nearly a mile long and four or five waterfalls similar to the one at this pond.
